desktop effects

I've just upgraded from Hardy Heron to Intrepid Ibix (Ubuntu 8.04 to Ubunt 8.10) and my notebook just started doing all wrong stuff. The navigation arrows stopped working, the UP key takes a screenshot, the left and right ones don't neither the DEL key, the AltGr starts acting as an ENTER key... This was fixed by following this post, basically you have to choose a different keyboard model:

And then restart the computer... Anyway, the Desktop Effects are just dead now =(

Yesterday I showed how to hide all the windows (under Windows XP) with a silent foot movement =P

The time has come for linux, and I'll show how to rotate the linux cube by using an old pair of wheel game peripheral pedals, the instructable is right here =P

Tengo una portátil Dell XPS 1330. Con una configuración básica, al parecer esta configuración solo estuvo disponible un tiempo para comprar por medio de la tienda Telmex. La computadora tiene esto:
- Core 2 Duo a 1.80 GHz
- 2 GB de memoria RAM
- 160 GB de disco duro
- Tarjeta de video Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

Mi única queja al instalar Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) fué que los desktop effects no funcionan a la primera (out of the box). Sin embargo después de estar probando distintos comandos encontré por ahí en algún blog que bastaba con hacer esto:

1) Primero ejecutar desde alguna terminal (a todos estos comandos hay que agregarles antes el "sudo" para que permita la instalación:
apt-get install xserver-xgl

2) Y ya después instalar nada más:
apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

Después de ésto aparece en el menú de System >> Preferences >> Advanced Desktop Effects Settings, con esto se pueden habilitar todos los efectos y funcionan de maravilla.
